Computer Science

The CentraleSupélec master in computer science co-accredited by CentraleSupélec and “Université de Lorraine” concerns only some tracks of the master degree in Computer Science of “Université de Lorraine”. The tracks you can attend are:

  • IA2VR: Artificial Intelligence applied to Vision and Robotics.
  • ID/IDÉAL: Data Intelligence, Decision, Machine Learning, ALgorithms.
  • IL/MFLS: Formal Methods for Reliable Software.
  • SIS/SIRAV Cybersecurity, networks and virtual architectures.

It is important to understand that your scores for the master’s courses determine not only your success in obtaining the master’s degree, but also your success in obtaining the CS engineering degree. Therefore, very low scores in your master’s courses can endanger your engineering degree. Enrolling in a master’s program is therefore a serious commitment. This is why it is important to read the following before making any decision, in order to fully understand how scores are exchanged between the two training programs.

On the master’s side

Some of the master’s courses are taught at the University of Lorraine (UL), while others are SDI courses taught at the CS that also count toward the master’s degree.

UL courses

Every track proposes a number of courses of either 24 or 48 hours (HPE). In total you must follow 144 HPE of these courses (for instance 6 courses of 24 HPE each). The complete list of courses is available on the website of each track, and the list of courses offered will be presented to you at the master’s program presentation meeting scheduled for the first day of the academic year (rentrée).

SDI courses integrated into the master’s program

Here is the list of CentraleSupélec courses whose grades count for the master's degree, instead of other master's courses from which enrolled students are exempted:
Short nameCourse titleECTSVolume (h)
NLP Natural Language Processing 2 21.5
ML1 Machine Learning 1 2 27.5
ML2 Machine Learning 2 2 21.5
Deep Deep Learning 2 27
SAE Software Application Engineering 2 22.5
BigData Computational models of Big Data 2 21

On the engineering diploma’s side

Similarly, if you enroll in the master’s program, you are not required to take all SDI courses: some are replaced by UL courses that you take for the master’s program. In practice the score of every cancelled SDI course is replaced by the score average of the UL courses you attend.

Here is the list of CentraleSupélec courses from which enrolled students are exempted and whose grades are replaced by the average grades obtained in the master's program:
Short nameCourse titleECTSVolume (h)
AppStat Statistical Learning Theory 2 23
PAIA Perspectives in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence 2 36
GPU GPU programming 2 20
Sparse Sparse Models 2 18.5
